Far above the Nicklebacks and Paramores of this world Clutch stride, having blazed their own path since and sure to continue doing so until the members are grey and old. In many respects, the Marylanders had grown beyond their humble hardcore and later alt-metal trappings. After a tumultuous time on Atlantic and Columbia Records, they needed to move on by throwing their past to the wind. Rather, the time was right to start anew. So, Clutch replaced their gas station badge logo with a trippy alternative. By having producer Machine at the helm, the quartet would also find an outsider coming into the fold.

It was a way forward and definitely a standard-setter in the realm of heavy rock.
